📬 Last Friday's mail delivered me some weekend reading. I've browsed this through over the weekend and here's why you should consider buying it too ⤵️ 👩‍💻Background: I've studied operations management at uni. This means basic operational metrics and concepts, like throughput time, cycle time and line balancing are very familiar to me. It comes as no surprise that this book has some legal-specific metrics that I could also call something else in traditional ops management lingo. BUT. If you do not have a degree in this field, this book brings you plenty more than the basics – put in a legal context! Instead of explaining specifically how for example throughput time can be utilized in a legal ops context, you can eg. just have a read about MAA (read the book if you want to know what it is 😉). 📖 The layout of each spread on each metric is well thought out and repeats itself. If you are struggling with a specific issue, you can start browsing and easily comparing various metrics to establish which could help you track and collect data on the situation.

There are a lot of really great models and measurements in Legal Operations KPIs, and it might help you figure out what things we should be measuring.

As somebody who has been tasked with heading up a legal operation department, this book has been very helpful and detailed to give me a better idea of what to look and aim for in efficiently running the law department. I recommend it for anyone who is beginning to create a Legal Operations department or is already involved but looking to further their progress.

This is a great book to learn about all the different key performance indicators relevant to legal operations. Highly recommended.

Brazil has an amazing background to deepen knowledge in KPIs and I'm sure that we can raise our potential with your expertise.

Time and again, I reach for it to identify the right KPIs for a particular practice group or circumstance. I also use it for inspiration on which charts to include in reports, making it an essential tool not only for metrics but also for clear communication. The content is thoughtfully laid out, making it easy to quickly find exactly what you need or to spark fresh ideas. Whether you’re working in-house or at a law firm, and regardless of department size, this book is an invaluable guide. Highly recommended!
