📬 Last Friday's mail delivered me some weekend reading. I've browsed this through over the weekend and here's why you should consider buying it too ⤵️ 👩‍💻Background: I've studied operations management at uni. This means basic operational metrics and concepts, like throughput time, cycle time and line balancing are very familiar to me. It comes as no surprise that this book has some legal-specific metrics that I could also call something else in traditional ops management lingo. BUT. If you do not have a degree in this field, this book brings you plenty more than the basics – put in a legal context! Instead of explaining specifically how for example throughput time can be utilized in a legal ops context, you can eg. just have a read about MAA (read the book if you want to know what it is 😉). 📖 The layout of each spread on each metric is well thought out and repeats itself. If you are struggling with a specific issue, you can start browsing and easily comparing various metrics to establish which could help you track and collect data on the situation.

This is a comprehensive, accessible, and future-ready guide for anyone tasked with managing or modernizing law firm performance reporting. I recommend Law Firm KPIs as a go-to reference for FP&A leaders, pricing directors, and legal ops professionals serious about building a metrics-driven culture in their firm.

As you’re growing your career in legal ops, it really is a marathon, not a sprint. Learn as much as you can as you go along and be patient about it. Learn what you want to learn, learn as you need to learn. There are amazing resources like ‘Legal Operations KPIs’ that can help guide you along the way.

I’m jumping on the bandwagon of those who already recommended the book—and that just confirms it’s definitely worth reading. You can find a lot of content about KPIs and OKRs in general, and there’s plenty of talk about how Legal Operations provides value to an organization. But I’ve never seen such a precise analysis and listing of metrics that are specifically suited to provide evidence of that value through reliable data. I’m glad I read it before tackling some KPI-related topics this year—and I’ll certainly recommend it to the team.

El manual del profesional jurídico para la excelencia operativa (Spanish Edition) escrito por Mori Kabiri, lo recomiendo ampliamente para cualquier persona que quiera tomar decisiones basadas en datos reales, mitigar el riesgo e interpretar el desempeño de una manera mucho más objetiva. Y lo mejor, enfocado al área del Derecho (el cual muchas veces se siente ajeno a estos temas...) tanto en inglés como en español.
