South America chapter
Standardized data for structured intelligence
Legal data in South America, as in many regions, is often fragmented, inconsistently labeled, and difficult to share across law firms, legal departments, courts, government agencies, and technology platforms.
Legal data standards such as SALI, FOLIO, and noslegal are working to address this challenge through open-source legal knowledge graphs, with more than 18,000 tags covering substantive law, the business of law, legal documents, workflows, industries, and other areas of legal work.
In this session, Damien Riehl, veteran attorney, SALI co-architect, and developer of FOLIO ontology tools, will explore how law firms, legal departments, government lawyers, legal technology providers, and the judiciary can use structured tagging to make legal data more consistent and interoperable.
The discussion will also look at the connection between structured legal data and AI. When legal work is tagged consistently, organizations can improve how LLMs work with their information, strengthen analytics, and make data easier to use across systems and jurisdictions.
Drawing on examples from Latin America, the US, UK, and EU, Damien will share how legal organizations are already applying these standards and what broader adoption could mean for the legal ecosystem in South America.
Your changes will be lost and cannot be recovered.
